Favorite Places
---------------
(Windows is a registered trademark of Microsoft.)
***
OK, quick and dirty:
Prelude:
--------
Favorite Places is a program that arose out of my frustration of having to
open Program Manager, open the window of the application, and then, still,
have to double-click the icon. (Which usually didn't work on the first try
anyway!) Too much work! (Yes, I'm lazy.)
Most people only access about four to six programs, at best, on a regular
basis anyway, so why all the fuss with opening and closing windows, and
sub-windows? I use Favorite Places religiously and am very pleased with
myself for writing it. I hope you find it as useful and helpful as I have.
Setup:
------
To install Favorite Places, unzip the file into a subdirectory on your hard
drive or onto a diskette and run fpsetup.exe from Windows. Once Installation
is completed, Favorite Places will automatically load. I have not made any
provisions for automatically adding the icon to your 'Start Up' window, so
you will need to do so until the next revision. Sorry bout' that.
I have included one goodie to make your life easier. There is a file that
comes with Favorite Places called 'RUN.EXE." This is basically the same thing
as the 'Run...' option in Program Manager. To use this, simply add it to one
of the buttons on the console. When you need to run an application that is
not on your console or in the Windows sub-windows, click the 'Run' button
you've created and type type in the file name. "What could be easier !?"
(Classic sales pitch warning!!!!!!)
Customizing:
------------
Simply click on the button you want to edit with the right mouse button. When
the edit window comes up, you can add a program by typing the application name
in the 'Program Title:' box, then typing the path of the program in the
'Path:' box, and if needed, the working directory of the application. You can
also click the 'Browse' button to select the file from the drive menu. In
either case, you will need to type the application name, regardless.
To clear a button, click the button with the right mouse button, then click on
'Delete.'
To move an application to another button, click the right mouse button on the
application you want to move. At the edit window, choose 'Move.' You will be
prompted for the new location. (The buttons are number from 0 to 17 (18
buttons), from left to right. i.e. the top row would be 0 to 5, middle row 6
to 11, bottom row 12 to 17.) Enter the new position you want for the
application and choose 'Ok.'
I believe the controls to be pretty simple and straightforward. But just to
be safe, if you need help hit F1 while Favorite Places has the focus and a
help file will pop up under notepad.
Registration:
-------------
Ahh, yes. That familiar money-thing . . .
I truly hope you find Favorite Places to be both useful and valuable. If you
do, AND you use it regularly, YOU ARE OBLIGED to register your copy.
If you do not find it to be valuable, simply delete the files from your system
and no hard feelings.
To register Favorite Places, simply print the registration form provided
(REGISTER.DOC), fill it out and send it with the $10 Registration Fee (Check
or Money Order) to:

Distribution.
-------------
Favorite Places is being distributed as shareware so I encourage you upload
it, UNALTERED AND IN IT'S ENTIRETY, to your favorite or even not-so-favorite
BBSs!
Etc.
----
First of all, this is a first version so their are bound to be at least a few
glitches in the program despite my exhaustive efforts to weed them out. I'm
sure there's no major problems, but if something acts wierd on your system,
drop me a line and I'll try to get the next revision as quickly as possible.
On that note . . . As this program will be running on a number of different
systems with a miriad of different hardware and software configurations, I
make no guarantees against loss of data, time, or additional expense incurred
as a result of running this program. Most standard IBM and IBM-Clones should
work without a hitch.
I am already working on new and improved features such as the ability to make
Favorite Places your Windows shell, along with alot of other neat stuff I
think you'll enjoy. My major goal with this program is to streamline the
everyday use of Windows; taking advantage of the power of the GUI while
stearing away from the confusion and tediousness that can occur when running
the same programs all the time.
I strongly desire your feedback on Favorite Places; recommended additional
features, etc. Unfortunately, the only other reliable source to reach me
other than by mail is CompuServe @ 71623,3451. I look forward to your
questions and comments.
Thank you for evaluating Favorite Places, and for supporting the shareware
concept.
Sincerely,
Steve Brown
